"Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world."
-Marilyn Monroe
When I was young, or should I say younger, I thought that stilettos are for upper class women only. I saw them in movies attending parties wearing cocktail dresses and all glammed up with classy jewelry and metallic sandals or pumps. I admire how they carry themselves wearing those shoes. They look oh-so-elegant!
Now, here I am in one of the world's fashion capital - Milan. I know I'm not a fashion guru or a fashion stylist, just a self-proclaimed fashionista haha, but I still want to look stylish whenever I roam around the city.
But how can I? if I only have 2 sneakers and a red stilettos. I regret not investing in shoes. I admit I am not a shoe-lover and I am a certified 'kuripot' *laugh* I may have a lot of clothes but I can't wear some of them simply because I don't have the right shoes to pair with them. My options are pretty much limited to Brown Pony sneakers, White Converse sneakers and Red stilettos. I can wear them as much as I wanted but hey! It's kinda boring to wear the same shoes over and over again. :(
So before you get into this horrible situation, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE.. Listen to me now. Okay?
- Invest in high-quality shoes - If you think you can save more from buying a cheap one, think again.
- Go for nude-colored shoes - They match with nearly everything and you can wear them anytime. They can elongate your legs as well.
- Basic Black Pumps - You can wear it from day to night. If you are unsure of what to pair with your outfit, wear this one.
- Ballet Flats or Dolly Shoes- If you are not fond of wearing high-heels/pumps (but pls own at least one) invest on ballet flats. These shoes are good for everyday use. You can wear them anytime, anywhere.
- Wedge Shoes - Oh! I bet you see them everywhere. You'll definitely look hot and stylish with these shoes, just make sure that it fits your feet perfectly.
- Metallic High-Heeled Sandals - Wear this shoes for formal occasions such as wedding, anniversary and the likes. Gold and Silver Metallic Sandals are more wearable than other colors.
- Boots - Suede or Knee-High boots is a must-have in your winter wardrobe.
- Sneakers - mainly worn for casual occasions, pair them with simple or printed tee and jeans and you're ready to go. Sneakers are relatively comfortable to wear and can be worn for hours.
Here are a few tips from About.com on which shoe colors go best with certain clothing colors.
- Black shoes: nearly anything except pastels and some earth tones -- but even then, if black is repeated elsewhere in the outfit, black shoes can be a dynamic choice.
- Brown shoes: shades of tan, brown, beige, orange, greens, and darker earth tones.
- Tan/Light Brown shoes: lighter earth tones, blue, beige, lighter tan or white.
- Cream/Taupe shoes: whites, light neutrals, and pastels.
- White shoes: light neutrals, brights, and pastels.
- Silver shoes: pastels, as well as with white, black, blues and purples.
- Gray shoes: blacks, blues, grays, reds, as well as some purples and yellows.
- Gold shoes: greens, reds, browns, and they usually look good with black and white as well.
Whew! It's a lengthy post but it's worth it, right lovelies? I hope you learn something from this post and from my story.
'Til then!
