How to Prevent Stretch Marks

It’s all about prevention when it comes to stretch marks, those deep, dreaded lines of scar tissue that develop as a result of pregnancy or shifts in weight. They’re much more challenging to get rid of than to fend off in the first place, as we can personally attest thanks to our multiple attempts at fading the ones we’ve had since puberty (how were we supposed to know?!).

We’ll try not to go into the science of how they come to be—basically, stretch marks are caused by a tear in connective tissue, which sounds way more violent than it is—but we will happily impart the wisdom of the best approaches for preventing those tears from occurring.

Add gelatin to your diet.Anything that increases your skin’s elasticity is a win in the battle against stretch marks, and collagen is the thing that keeps your skin supple. Gelatin, derived from the bones and joints of animals, isn’t a vegan-friendly ingredient, but if you’re a meat eater, it’s one of the best ways to encourage the collagen production that’s so necessary to maintaining youthful skin. Make an effort to drink bone broth, which is the most concentrated way to consume gelatin, every day—you can use it in soups, gravies, sauces, and more, and it’s pretty delicious, too.

DIY Hair Mask Recipes

Sometimes the best hair treatments aren’t in the beauty aisle, but in the pantry. “The most obvious
benefit [to DIY hair treatment] is financial, but other benefits include the ability to customize treatments for your own special needs,” says Kyle White, lead colorist at Oscar Blandi Salon in NYC. “If you have a specific oil you prefer for its scent or unique benefits, you can use that more heavily, or if you have allergies to certain ingredients then you can avoid them.” Here are some of his favorite recipes for hair masks that you can mix up in your kitchen.

Enhance Your Hair Color
Brunettes can tone down brassiness with a grape Kool-Aid or coffee rinse. For redheads, use a cranberry rinse or cherry Kool-Aid to add vibrancy and shine. Blondes can enhance golden tones by combing through a glass of champagne. “The champagne color will bring out any golden highlights while the carbonation gives volume and shine,” says White. To combat brassiness in blonde hair, use a drop of purple food coloring in your shampoo to neutralize the orange tone.

Eye Shadow: Applying and Blending Tips

I've been gone for too long and as a come back post, I'll share with you these awesome makeup tutorial photos I found in Google. I used to see these pictures in Facebook and they never fail to amaze me! As I've told you before, I am not a makeup junkie but I am still curious about it.

I find it easier to learn how to apply eye shadows using visual images/videos rather than reading HOW-TOs in blogs and books. I know you're excited as much as I am so..... here they are!

I'm a fan of gold, tan and bronzes - and I really really love this combination! I find it simple yet elegant.

Makeup Review Part 4: Krave Satin Sheer Eyeshadows

For the 4th part of my makeup review, I'll feature Krave Minerale Satin Sheer Eyeshadow. For those who haven't read my previous makeup reviews (see links below), I got these amazing items from Skye Avenue. Ms. Dee was generous enough to send some for me to review.

Description: Accentuate your eyes with our mineral shadows that are extremely long wearing, multi-purpose & range from delicate, soft tones to bold & vibrant hues. Its not too sparkly nor too glittery, just the right amount of sheer you need for a natural allure.

The skin in our eye lids, crease and under the eyes are too delicate that due to the use of chemically-formulated eye shadows/glitters/liners/mascara will eventually cause fine lines, wrinkles, and dark under eye circles.

Makeup Review Part 3: Krave Minerale Oil Eliminator and Skin Hydrator

My third makeup review is about Krave's best seller - the Krave Minerale Oil Eliminator and Skin Hydrator.
If you are a makeup blogger, I'm sure you've heard of this wonderful product before.

Description: We highly recommend Krave Minerale's OIL ELIMINATOR and SKIN HYDRATOR not just for oily gals but for all make up users out there.

Krave Minerale's OIL ELIMINATOR and SKIN HYDRATOR is translucent so it won't interfere with other mineral makeup colors you are wearing. Plus, it is specifically formulated to virtually erase the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles & large pores when applied.

Makeup Review Part 2: Myra-E Vita Glow Tinted Moisturizer

For the second part of my makeup review I'll feature Myra Vita Glow Tinted Moisturizer. If you've read my Makeup Review Part 1, I have mentioned that I'm not much of a makeup person but this tinted moisturizer is in my daily routine.

Description: Gives a hint of color- Evens out skin tone with a natural coverage, Contains minerals to give your skin a healthy glow, Enriched with Vitamin E to help keep skin soft, healthy, and young-looking,With  SPF 15 to protect skin against the sun’s harmful rays and it's Dermatologist-tested so it is mild, gentle, and safe for everyday use.

Makeup Review Part 1: Krave Minerale Correct & Conceal

I love skin care products and yes I do love cosmetics but I'm not much of a makeup person. I do visit makeup blogs but I'm not fond of watching makeup tutorials on Youtube. In short, I'm a late bloomer when in comes to makeup - but hey!  I'm starting to learn how to do it.

As a start, Ms. Dee of Skye Avenue gave me a chance to review some of their on-hand items such as Krave Minerale Correct & Conceal (concealer),  Krave Minerale Oil Eliminator & Skin Hydrator (primer & finishing veil) , Krave Satin Sheer in Eclairs (Eyeshadow) and Krave Minerale Moisturizing Lip Shimmer in Chili Red.

Okay. Let's start with my Makeup Review Part 1: Krave Minerale Correct & Conceal.

Skin Care Routine: The Korean Way

We all know how Korean products most especially the BB cream takes the world by storm. Nowadays, you can see numerous Korean beauty products, Korean boutiques, Korean Online boutiques and of course, Korean themselves roaming around Manila and nearby areas.

When I'm still studying at LPU, I saw lot of Korean students. I dunno if they were exchange students or what. , I can't help but turn head whenever I see them not because they were 'strangers' but because I admire their skin. Swear! I really envy their radiant and flawless skin! and how I wish mine was the same. Honestly, I am intrigued on how they take good care of their skin. So I made a 'lil research and voila! I found a lot! ahaha!

Among the articles I've read, this is the best article I liked. i find it very informative and concise.

Chanel Précision Rectifiance Intense Eye Cream Review

Dark circles around the eyes, puffiness and wrinkles - these are signs of aging. Sadly, a lot of people don’t use eye cream simply because they never knew they need it.

The areas surrounding our eyes are some of the most sensitive and prone to aging . It is very thin and delicate and does not have any sebaceous glands which produce oil that keeps our skin soft and supple, thus very susceptible to damage. If not treated with special care and attention, we could get bags, fine lines, puffiness and dark circles before we know it. It makes sense to start using a good eye cream and to continue applying it daily throughout our lifetime .

Honestly, I am one of those who aren't familiar with the importance of eye cream. I am not that conscious with my eyes, though I admit that sometimes my eyes look dull and tired which makes me look like 10 years older. As an Advertising student, I hardly sleep at night due to paper works, projects and stuffs to do. Deadlines are here and there. Because of these things, I expect to have terrible puffy bags under my eyes when I wake up.  I started using eye cream when my younger sister gave me this Chanel Rectifiance Intense Eye Cream.

All About SPF and PA

It's been so long since I wrote my last post.  I got so busy with our thesis and other school stuff so, now that I'm back, I decided to post about  SPF and PA which we usually see on beauty and skin care products that we use.

If you are aware on the skin care & make-up products that you are buying or using such as body lotion, moisturizer, creams ,sunscreen, foundation, tint & the talk-of-the-town, BB creams, you might have noticed that there's something written like a specific number of SPF and/or level of PA or both. If you are just a 'newbie' on skin care regimen then you might wonder what does SPF and PA stands for.

WHAT IS SPF?

Sun Protection Factor or simply 'SPF' is a measurement of how much protection the product offers from the UVB rays. The number you see associated with SPF represents the length of time you can stay out in the Sun without burning, multiplied by the corresponding number. So if your skin normally starts to burn in 10 minutes, a UV sunscreen of SPF 15 would allow you to stay out in the sun 15 times longer. Then 10 minutes multiplied by the number of SPF,which is 15,  means you could have 150 minutes of sun protection. But you have to remember that there are several factors to consider such as the clothes you are wearing, what time you are  and how long you are exposed under the sun and so much more.

Body Recipe's Corrective Night Cream

I never used a night cream before. What I use every morning is same with what I use at night. Honestly, I am not that 'interested' or uber serious on skin care. I only do the basics- Cleansing, Toning and Moisturizing and if I'm in the mood, I use facial scrub and/or facial mask once a week. I don't care about sunblocks, night cream, eye cream and others though I heard about them.

Okay, before I start with my BR Corrective Night Cream Review, let me share this with you guys.

Reasons why you need to use a night cream

1.  A night treatment really helps maintain our skin's moisture to prevent dehydration and premature wrinkling.

2. Using a night cream can actually help your skin recover faster. It stimulate cell renewal and restore elasticity.

3. Night creams contain a higher concentration of antioxidants and whitening ingredients than day cream.

Based on the statements above, I can say that we really need to use a night cream, but we have to be careful in choosing what kind/brand of Night cream we will use.

Must read: 5 Simple Steps to Smoother Skin

I saw this article from Female Network. I really love beauty advices and tips. This is soooo true guys! And because it is very informative,I want to share it with you. :)

 STEP 1: RETHINK THE BASICS

Most women know the basic steps of skin care by heart: cleanse, tone, moisturize. But experts believe two more crucial steps should be included in the list. “Cleanse, tone, exfoliate, moisturize, and protect from the sun—without fail,” says Dr. Maria Theresa Tan Pascual, a fellow of the Philippine Dermatological Society. Now, the fifth step, protect your skin from the sun, is crucial. Dr. Charissa Salud, a board-certified dermatologist, advises applying a generous dollop of sunscreen to all exposed areas, regardless of whether you're at the beach or not. “Remember your neck, arms, legs, and even the back of the hands. You don’t want these parts to give away your age,” she says, adding that the right amount of sunscreen for the face and neck is about the length of your index finger. Adhere to these five basic steps and see results fast. “Within one week you’ll see improvements,” says Dr. Tan Pascual. Exfoliation will clear up your dead skin cells, moisturizing will lessen dryness, and applying sunblock will diminish redness and prevent the development of brown pigmentations.

December try-outs update

This is an update from my December try-outs post. Last December, I decided to do a product review of the following: Zizmore Whitening lotion, Glam work's Hair Luxe, Watson's Green Tea & Cucumber Body scrub and Ysa Botanica's  2 in 1 Papaya with  Kojic Acid soap.

1. Zizmore Whitening lotion with sunscreen

I still use this product on my feet and other dark part of my body. Somehow it helps lighten my dark spots. Yeah it's okay but honestly, I don't recommend it as a body lotion for those people who do have sensitive skin. like me.

2. Glam work's Hair Luxe for Damaged Hair

I use Hair luxe at least twice a week and the results were great. After using this product, my hair feels smooth and manageable. I recommend this product for girls with dry to damaged hair. The Avocado & Jojoba Oil will lessen the dryness and frizziness of your hair.

December try outs

Hello everyone! This December I decided to try different beauty products like Zizmore Whitening lotion, Glam works' Hair Luxe, Watsons' Green Tea & Cucumber Body scrub and Ysa Botanica's 2 in 1 Papaya with Kojic Acid Soap. Feel free to comment and/or suggest. Thanks!

1. Zizmore Whitening lotion with sunscreen

Manufactured by: Zizmore Corporation
Description: Now you can have a lotion that whitens your skin while it penetrates beneath where dryness begins, moisturizing, smoothening and beautifying  from inside out, and unlike other whitening lotion, you may expose yourself to sunlight. Its unique formula contains special sun-block that effectively protects the skin against the harmful rays of the sun. With daily use, your complexion will look healthy smooth and younger looking too.
Special ingredient: Papaya extract and Vitamin E

I got this Zizmore Whitening lotion from my lolo. He won a  gift pack from their Brgy's Xmas party. Together with the lotion are (if i'm not mistaken) Alune Whitening Milk Bath (which I will try soon), a small bottle that looks like efficacent oil and a low-class perfume. At first, I was kinda hesitant to try this lotion because it's not familiar to me. Also, I have a sensitive skin, that's why I only use tried and tested (branded) products. I researched first and I found out that at some places this product DO exist. There are online sellers and buyers -and it costs Php 250! According to the reviews I've read, this product is effective on whitening skin complexion and dark spots. So, to avoid any harm, I decided to try it first on my feet. My feet were really dry and honestly, they are the most 'neglected' part of my body. I put a 'lil amount of lotion on my right foot. Unlike other lotions, this one is malabnaw. It also smells like a mild ethyl alcohol. After I lather a little amount on my foot, I immediately noticed that my skin feels smoother - hmm, good start. I'm not really after its whitening effect , but to see if it is true, I lather a small amount on my knees. We are unable to see its effect after the first use so I'll update you more about the product after a week or two.

2. Glam work's Hair Luxe for Damaged Hair

Distributed by: Watsons Personal Care Stores (Philippines) Inc.
Description: The Avocado and Jojoba Oil combination provides elements of nutrition and helps protect hair from damage during heat treatments. Gives hair that special luxurious look, keeping it healthy and manageable.
Special Ingredient: Avocado and Jojoba Oil

I got my hair relaxed last Sunday, it was really a.... DISASTER! Huge part of my hair is now curly and frizzy and it's so hard to manage. I am having a hard time combing my hair. I am so upset and I don't know what to do. I researched for some 'home-treatment' and any product that could bring back the goodness of my hair. Some of the tips I read were: deep conditioning your hair once a week, Have a hot oil once a month and don't use shampoo everyday. There are some hair treatments especially made for chemically damaged hair but I can't afford to try one. They costs atleast Php 3,000. Good thing I found out some good product reviews. This is where I found out about Lory's Deep Conditioning Cream. I read a lot about this product and the users rated it EXCELLENT! I really wanna try this product but unfortunately, I don't have enough money to buy one ( better luck next time). I opt to use a more affordable product. There are lot of  products to choose from. I'm about to buy Sunsilk's Damage Repair Hot Oil when I saw Glam Work's Hair Luxe. I read the label and bought it. Why? because of its special ingredient, the Avocado and Jojoba Oil, Based on my research, Avocado and Jojoba are both good in repairing chemically damaged hair. Nice isn't it?! and it's more affordable. It costs only Php99.00!

I tried it first by leaving it on my hair overnight. ofcourse with a shower cap on. Early in the morning, I wash my hair and dry it. My hair becomes smoother and shinier. After 2 days, I used it again. I leave it on my hair overnight. This time , my hair is more manageable than before, less falling hair and easier to comb. I used it again for the third time.  I was surprised to see that the curly and frizzy part of my hair got smoother and straighter. I am so happy with the results and this product is on my beauty list now!

3. Watsons' Green Tea & Cucumber Body Scrub

Distributed by: Watsons Personal Care Stores (Philippines) Inc.
Description: Watsons Soothing Body Scrub contains exfoliating beads to scrub away dry and rough skin. Infused with the fresh crisp scent of Green Tea & Cucumber, it will leave your skin feeling soft, smooth and invigorated.
Special Ingredient: Green Tea and Cucumber

This wasn't my first choice. What I want to buy is Asian Secret's Lulur body scrub but I saw their promos and I picked this one. What I like about this product is its scent and gentle scrubs - It's not like you're rubbing gravel and sand on your body. One thing I don't like about this one it the 'malagkit' feeling after I used it.

4. Ysa Botanica's 2 in 1 Papaya with Kojic Acid Soap

Distributed by:  YSA Skin Care Corporation
Description: An effective skin lightening soap that combines the intensive whitening and rejuvenating properties of both Kojic acid and Papaya Enzyme. With regular use, complexion will become visibly lighter and skin noticeably softer and smoother.
Special Ingredient: Papaya Enzyme and Kojic Acid.

I read a lot of product reviews about whitening soaps. My first choice was CY Gabriel, but I heard that it can cause your skin super dry so I switched to YSA Botanica. This is their latest product - combination of Papaya and Kojic. Based on my research Kojic is really good in whitening skin complexion. I told you before, I'm not into 'Skin whitening'; the reason why I buy these whitening products is because I have these small dark spots and these products can decrease its visibility. This is the 4th day I am using YSA Botanica. I don't see any 'whitening' effect maybe because I'm not using YSA Botanica lotion. They said that it is more effective if you use the soap and the lotion. I am a lil' bit concern with its effect on my skin. After the third time I used the soap, I had several blisters/ 'butlig' on my arms. Well, I guess this is how my skin reacts to the products that I'm using. I experienced this several times before on different whitening products. According to Wikipedia, it is called Contact Dermatitis.  I will continue using YSA Botanica for few more days, let's see if the blisters will still occur and if it will lessen the visibility of the dark spots.

If your are interested with the results of these products on me, stay in touch . I will  also write more product reviews. Share your thought and experience too.
